About Call Emmy

Call Emmy is an on-demand mobile app that allows you to hire vetted helpers to lend a hand on a variety of tasks. This includes household cleaning, child care, in-home laundry & chores, meal prep & delivery, and home organization. Call Emmy does background checks, behavior screenings and skill verification before onboarding new applicants, carried out by humans. Users save up dozens of weekly hours on house chores to focus on their goals and passion, with a safety and quality guarantee!

The Problem

Call Emmy acquired Nanno, a babysitting app and GoGrow partner, and proposed that we handle the migration and integration under Call Emmy’s new branding. They needed a partner who understood both the solution and the problem to carry out this transition. Call Emmy needed to scale their mobile platform while maintaining a strong focus on user trust and safety. They wanted to improve the booking experience and ensure smooth backend operations for service requests.

The Solution

We revamped Nanno by updating the web and mobile applications, adding new functionalities, and redesigning the UI to give it the new and improved Call Emmy look. We redesigned key app flows to simplify navigation and task selection.

We built the web application using React, which is wrapped into a mobile app for iOS and Android using the Capacitor library. The backend is built in Ruby on Rails with PostgreSQL and hosted on AWS. It includes multiple integrations such as Stripe, Twilio, SendGrid, Pusher, Jira, and Slack for customer support, background checks with Authenticating.com, and uses ForestAdmin for administration. We've optimized the backend systems to support location-based service requests and improve performance.

Conclusion

Hiring trusted help at home is easier than ever, thanks to Call Emmy’s revamp. With the revamped web and mobile apps, enhanced features, and a refreshed UI, the platform makes it easy to hire, schedule, and manage services while ensuring safety and quality. Behind the scenes, powerful backend tools allow the Call Emmy team to run operations smoothly, supporting continued growth and innovation in on-demand home assistance. We have continued working with Call Emmy, now migrating the system to a new codebase.
