About Anova Care

Anova Care is Colorado’s leading home health innovator, providing a comprehensive continuum of care services in patients’ homes. Founded by Sophia after a deeply personal experience with her mother’s stroke recovery in 2005, the company operates on the conviction that the safest place for seniors to live is in the comfort of their own home. With offices in Denver and Colorado Springs, Anova Care offers home care, home health, palliative care, and hospice services, delivering compassionate and personalized support to families across the state.

The Problem

Anova Care needed a technology partner to bring their home care marketplace vision to life, from concept through launch. The challenge was building a platform (branded ZappeCare) that could serve multiple user types - clients seeking care, individual providers, and agencies - while handling complex workflows like service requests, provider applications, appointment scheduling, and payment processing. The platform also needed to deliver a polished mobile experience on both iOS and Android, all while being reliable, scalable, and intuitive enough for non-technical users to navigate with ease.

The Solution

We partnered with Anova Care to design, build, and launch the ZappeCare platform from the ground up.

On the backend, we built a robust Ruby on Rails API with PostgreSQL, featuring a comprehensive data model that supports client profiles, beneficiary management, provider profiles (both individual and agency), service requests with recurrence options, provider applications with rate negotiations, appointment scheduling with payment processing, and a real-time messaging system powered by ActionCable. Stripe was integrated for secure payment handling, SendGrid for transactional emails, and Sidekiq with Redis for background job processing. AWS S3 handles file storage for provider documentation and user media, while Geocoder powers location-based provider discovery. Motor Admin provides the internal team with a powerful administration panel.

On the frontend, we built a modern, responsive web application using Next.js and React with TypeScript, styled with Tailwind CSS and powered by Radix UI components. The app features Google Maps integration for location-based service requests, React Hook Form with Zod validation for robust form handling, and TanStack React Query for efficient data fetching. To extend the platform’s reach, we wrapped the web application into native iOS and Android apps using Capacitor, giving users a seamless mobile experience with camera access, push notifications, and native keyboard handling.

The platform supports a complete care marketplace workflow: clients create service requests specifying care needs, dates, and recurrence preferences. Providers in the area can browse and apply to open requests with their proposed rates. Clients review applications, accept providers, and schedule appointments. The built-in chat system allows direct communication between clients and providers, and the issue reporting system ensures accountability at every step.

Anova Care now operates a fully functional home care marketplace that connects clients with qualified providers across web and mobile. The platform handles everything from service discovery and provider vetting to appointment booking, payments, and real-time communication, giving Colorado families peace of mind and providers a reliable channel to grow their practice. With a scalable architecture and a strong technical foundation, Anova Care is well-positioned to expand its reach and continue improving access to quality home care across Colorado and beyond.
